Overview

Digital image files from scanner, camera or computer can now be printed direct to professional, archive-quality, continuous-tone photographic paper using the latest photo-digital laser printers. The resulting prints are true photographic prints of superb quality with exceptional colour stability and are ideal for customers who own digital cameras and/or manipulate scanned images.

Images can be submitted in two ways, either by post on disk or using our new Peak On-Line software via the internet.

FREE Optimisation of Digital Images

Colour & Density correction - All digital images are optimised for colour balance and density as standard. Colour photography is a subjective medium and our skilled operators will aim to produce a neutral print without colour bias. If you have set up a colour profile to match our output devices and you do not require your images correcting, please mark your order clearly "DO NOT OPTIMISE". Optimisation is recommended for those who require optimum print quality and do not have access to image manipulation facilities of their own.

If do not wish us to correct your images and would like us to print your images directly, please read our guide to calibrating your monitor.

Peak On-Line

Our new Peak On-Line software makes ordering prints from your digital images quick and easy.
Various print sizes are available up to a maximum of 50 x 30 on both gloss and satin matt paper surface.

The step by step procedure guides you through the process of selecting your images from your hard drive, connects you directly to our print server and uploads your images to our print queue. Your images are then printed on to Fuji Crystal Archive photographic paper and returned to you by first class post.

Resolution
Please ensure that your images have a resolution of at least 200ppi at the print size you require to avoid unsatisfactory results. The software will warn you if the resolution of the image is too small.

File Types
Ideally images submitted for this service should be saved as JPEG or TIF format files.

Acceptable media

We accept images from a variety of media - CD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R, Zip disk, Floppy disk, CompactFlash, Secure Digital, Memory Stick and Smartmedia cards.

Unless specifically requested, original CD's and DVD's will only be returned where postal weight and size restrictions allow.

File formats

Images should be supplied as RGB TIF or JPEG files using the sRGB colour profile and be saved at the required size, at a resolution of 254ppi. Non standard sizes are available, these will be charged at the next size up. ie. 29"x 7" would be charged as a 30"x 10".

Please ensure all images supplied are the correct resolution and image format for the print size(s) you require. Ensure your images are saved as 8 bit RGB, JPG or TIF files in folders relating to print size and paper surface required. For optimum results it is recommended that all images submitted for digital printing are saved in the sRGB colour space.

WE CANNOT ACCEPT... Images containing layers, paths, selections, extra channels, optimised JPEGs, Photoshop PSD files, MAC TIF files or images saved using LZW compression. Images including non-standard characters in the filenames. Characters such as "!£$%^&*()-+@:;~#.

Apple Macs

Due to differences in the way MacOS and Windows handle filenames, we strongly advise that filenames should be alphanumeric, with no punctuation or spaces. We also suggest that TIFF files are saved using PC byte order format, with no compression.

Resolution

Most digital cameras available today produce images with a limited scope for enlargement - a 4-megapixel camera, for instance, can only produce quality prints up to 12 x 8 inches; any larger and the print will become noticeably blocky or pixelated. Ensure that your images have a resolution of at least 200ppi (pixels per inch) at the print size you require to avoid unsatisfactory results. Compare your file sizes (when open, NOT when compressed or stored on disk) with those listed here as a guide to maximum print size.

Cropping guidelines

Due to the process by which digital prints are created, it is inevitable that on occasion prints will be cropped by as much as 4mm per edge [Fuji Frontiers cut the paper to size and then print the image, rather than the other way around]. If you wish to avoid potential cropping problems, we recommend that you extend a white canvas around the image, taking the overall size of the image up to the next standard size.

For example, if you have a 7½" x 5" image and wish to eliminate the possibility of cropping, extend the canvas to 8" x 6" [don't stretch or resize the image!] and send it to us, requesting an 8" x 6" print. The only disadvantage to this next-size-up approach is that you will be charged for the larger print - in the case of the example above, for the 8" x 6" - but you will have a full-frame print.

Non-standard print sizes

Images submitted to us that do not fit the standard paper formats listed here will be printed to fill the paper size. This may mean that you lose an important part of your image (see example). If you require an odd size, eg 10 x 6, increase the canvas size to a standard print size, ie 10 x 8.
